Lead Guide

Reporting to the Snowsports Manager, the Lead Guide will be responsible for the delivery of our Powder Guiding and Group Guided Tours.

This will include managing a small team of 15 skilled guides/instructors responsible for the continued development of our Guiding Program through ongoing training, development and delivery of our safety management plans and ongoing product improvements and enhancements.

What you'll be doing

  • Continually striving to exceed our Guest’s expectations and to create memories for guests and staff as the best mountain experience again and again.
  • Reporting to the Snowsports Manager, you will be managing a team of 15 instructors/guides.
  • The Lead Guide will be responsible for developing safety management plans and assessing risks on a daily basis.
  • Liaising with the guests to plan trips according to the guest’s skills, goals and conditions.
  • Conducting daily safety briefings with the team to advise risk assessments and optimal touring areas.
  • Ongoing assessment product content to continually improve and enhance the guest experience.
  • Approval of the schedule to best match the guides & guests
  • Payroll and any related disputes and queries.
  • Managing any issues which arise during the day. This will include investigating and resolving issues where necessary and escalating any major problem to the Snowsports Manager.
  • Know all GoSnow programs, prices and lesson details
  • Ensure staff are meeting our snowsports policies and procedures at all times, including our professional appearance policy
  • Responsible for the ongoing development and improvement of their teams including all necessary disciplinary action.
  • Conduct in house training for the ongoing development of the Guiding Team
  • Conduct avalanche awareness and mountain safety sessions for all staff as part of the in house training program
  • Be responsible for creating a culture of excellence, enthusiasm and passion for snowsports
  • Assist with the supervision of other department areas when necessary
  • Snowsports instruction and guiding

Qualifications and job requirements

  • Minimum APSI Level three or equivalent international certification
  • Avalanche Operations Level 1 Minimum (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in conducting in house training programs
  • Previous guiding experience
  • Intimate understanding of the Niseko Resort area and back country accessible terrain.
  • Strong customer service skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Be able to obtain a valid Japanese Working Visa or meet the requirements for a sponsored visa
